Sudoku for kids
For children, Sudoku is not arithmetic. It is a pattern game about noticing rules. Start with 4×4 for quick wins, then use 6×6 to introduce notes and more careful scanning.
Start with 4×4
4×4 uses only digits 1–4 and finishes quickly. Children can see the core rule clearly: no repeated digit in a row, column, or box.
- Use Easy 4×4 for the first few rounds.
- Ask why a digit fits instead of asking for speed.
- When they stall, cross out digits already visible in the row and column together.
Printable sheets help focus
Some children think more calmly on paper. Print 4×4 or 6×6 sheets, let them mark candidates with a pencil, then reopen the same page online when they want to play on a device.
When to try 6×6
Move to 6×6 Easy or Normal when your child can explain 4×4 solves without help. The extra candidates make note-taking useful without becoming overwhelming.
